‘95 Gift Guide Something Special In The Stocking

I like Mike.

The Spokane man found a Mike doll at a toy store and customized it with a gray beard and pony tail, tucking it into his wife’s stocking.

I also like Jim, who found an affordable ring from Tiffany’s and put the heart-stopping box into Santa’s sock.

In a season where bigger is supposed to be better, think small. Purse-sized fragrances, classic writing pens or perfectly chosen fishing flies are affordable and romantic.

The best gifts, of course, reflect the relationship. The starving graduate student who, after being treated to “The Nutcracker,” somehow afforded a nutcracker for his girlfriend’s sock. The new father who bought a point-and-shoot camera for a new mother.

Cold toes? Think warm socks. Low on money? Think coupons for back rubs.

A photograph of you together is always right. And don’t forget the impact of keys:

To your house if you aren’t married. To a hotel, if you are.
