Granger Suspended For Violations
Texas Southern basketball star Kevin Granger has been suspended by the NCAA because of dealings with the sports agent involved in the recent suspension of TCU running back Andre Davis.
Athletic director Bill Thomas said Granger, the SWAC preseason player of the year, accepted a ride with sports agent Jeffery Newport to a Houston health club and worked out free at the facility.
Utah starting guard Brandon Jessie must sit out seven games this season for receiving benefits from a sports agent while in junior college, the NCAA has ruled.

Tournament organizers said the eight-team field for the 19th annual Shootout also will include Syracuse, Arizona State, College of Charleston, Maine, North Carolina-Greensboro and host Alaska-Anchorage.
Four highly ranked teams, led by No. 2 Kansas, will play in the 1996 Maui Invitational in Lahaina, Hawaii.
The other ranked teams include No. 7 Massachusetts, No. 10 Iowa and No. 17 Virginia. California, LSU, South Carolina and Division II Chaminade round out the field.
