Boseman, Trojans Hold Off Lamar After Blowing Most Of 17-Point Edge

Stais Boseman scored 17 points and grabbed six rebounds Friday night as Southern California held off Lamar 76-72 at Los Angeles in the season-opener for both men’s basketball teams.

The Trojans blew most of a 17-point lead in the final 11 minutes before Boseman clinched the victory by making two free throws with 5.7 seconds to play.

A 3-point shot by Lamar’s Eric Lawson trimmed USC’s lead to 74-71 with 56 seconds remaining, and a free throw by Ron Coleman made it 74-72 with 7.1 seconds to go. Boseman then made his game-clinching foul shots.

Avondre Jones, a junior, had career-high totals of 16 points and nine rebounds for the Trojans. Brandon Martin and Cameron Murray added 12 points each and reserve Tyson Reuter had 10 points for USC.

Curley Johnson led Lamar with 12 points and 13 rebounds.

Lamar outrebounded USC 56-46.

Montana 70, Missouri-KC 60

Shawn Samuelson missed only one shot while scoring 20 points and Kirk Walker added 17 as the Grizzlies beat Missouri-Kansas City (0-1) in Missoula.

Samuelson hit 7 of 8 field goals, including two 3-pointers, and all four of his free throws for Montana (2-0).

Loyola Marymount 85, Sonoma St. 66

Ime Oduok scored 16 points and grabbed eight rebounds to lead the Lions to a season-opening victory over the Cossacks (1-2) in Los Angeles.

Sophomore Ben Ammerman had career-high totals of 15 points, nine rebounds and five assists in his first career start, and Jim Williamson had 15 points and eight rebounds for Loyola Marymount.

Michael DeSantis led Sonoma State with 15 points.

San Diego 84, Sacramento St. 80 (2OT)

Sophomore forward Ryan Williams scored eight of his career-high 34 points in the second overtime as the visiting Toreros beat the Hornets in a season opener.

Williams also had a career-high 18 rebounds and James Black contributed 17 points and 10 rebounds for the Toreros, who claimed their fourth straight victory over Sac State.

Bucknell 68, San Francisco 65 (OT)

In San Francisco, Brian Anderson’s 19 points led the Bisons over the Dons in the season opener for both teams.

After point guard Sekou Hamer led Bucknell back from a six-point halftime deficit to take a 51-47 lead with 6 minutes remaining, San Francisco freshman guard Michael Colter hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer to force overtime at 60-60.

In overtime, Kohlen Golden’s consecutive field goals gave the Bisons a 66-62 lead.
