Iowa State snapped Idaho’s 14-match volleyball winning streak Wednesday night, ousting the Vandals from the NCAA Tournament with a 15-13, 15-5, 15-10 victory before a crowd of 1,105 at Hilton Coliseum.
The Vandals fell to 0-4 in road playoff games, and hit just .072 against the Cyclones.
Seniors Tzvetelina Yanchulova and Sarah Toomey led Idaho. Yanchulova finished with 15 kills and a match-high 23 digs.
She broke Mindy Rice’s single-season school record by ending her career with 632 kills.
Toomey had 13 digs to finish with 1,235 on her career.
“I thought our two seniors played extremely well tonight,” disappointed Vandals coach Tom Hilbert said.
“It’s too bad they have to end their careers on this low note.”
Iowa State outside hitter Steph McCannon had 15 kills and 15 digs.
WSU will play Oral Roberts
Oral Roberts defeated Loyola Marymount 3-2 in a first-round match of the NCAA Tournament.
The game scores from the tightly contested match in Los Angeles were 14-16, 11-15, 15-13, 17-15, 15-12.
Oral Roberts moves to a record of 28-2 and will meet the Cougars (22-6) in a second-round match on Sunday at 2 p.m. in Bohler Gym.
The winner of that match will advance to the Pacific Regionals, tentatively set for Dec. 8-9 in Stanford, Calif.
