Orton Leads Balanced Lake City Volleyball Win

Jenna Orton had eight kills, seven aces and eight digs Saturday as Lake City defeated host East Valley 2-15, 15-11, 15-8, 15-7 in a non-league volleyball match.

Sarah Perry added 29 assists and Jenny Owen 16 digs for the Timberwolves (8-6). Angela Overdorff had five kills and Jennifer Kann 10 assists for the Knights.

In a non-league match at Post Falls, Sarah Peterson and Audrey Wallace had eight kills and six aces apiece as Falls Christian (11-9) beat visiting Deary 7-15, 15-12, 15-11.

Latisha Taylor added 10 assists for the Eagles.

At Bonners Ferry, the host Badgers topped Newport 15-2, 15-12 in a non-league match.

Lewiston (2-2, 10-6) scored 36 of the final 46 points for a 8-15, 15-6, 15-0 Inland Empire League win at Post Falls.

Heidi Umthun had 12 digs, nine kills and four aces for the Trojans (0-4, 5-12).

Amanda Tams had nine kills and seven blocks to lead St. Maries (7-0, 14-2) to a 15-7, 15-5 Intermountain League win over visiting Priest River (5-3, 15-5), the Lumberjacks’ closest pursuer.

Angie Epler had 13 service points and three aces, and Bridge O’Dwyer 10 kills for St. Maries.

Idaho girls soccer

Defense dominated as Lake City (6-3-4) and host East Valley finished in a scoreless tie during a non-league match.

EV outshot the Timberwolves 11-10. LC goalkeeper Anita Heaton had four saves.

Erica Mays and Jessica Robinson scored two goals apiece as visiting Moscow (5-3-3) used a solid second half to subdue Lakeland 6-1 in a non-league match at Rathdrum.

Robinson’s goals came 8 minutes apart in the second half. Holly Davidson had two assists for the Bears. Cara Barnes scored the Hawks’ goal.

Idaho cross country

Kyle Delamarter finished fifth to lead the Sandpoint boys to fifth place at the Boise Invitational.

Delamarter ran 16 minutes, 41 seconds, which trailed champion Tor Sandren of Boise by 20 seconds. Boise won the team title with 34 points. Sandpoint scored 159, 10thplace Lake City 198. Bryce Knight (17:23), in 16th place, led LC.

Sandpoint’s girls finished fourth with 135 points to the 47 of winner Boise. Sue Werner (18:52) of Boise was the winner. Sandpoint’s Emily Baker (21:06) finished 20th.

Frontier League girls soccer

Sarah Simpson’s unassisted goal at the 64-minute mark allowed host Colville (0-4-1) to tie Pullman at 2.

Trisha Throop of the Indians scored just 5 minutes into the match, but the Greyhounds (0-5-1) took the lead on goals by Michelle Wahl and Kelly Pritchard.

GSL volleyball

Two points away from losing the match, North Central (5-4) rebounded for an 11-15, 2-15, 15-13, 15-9, 15-10 win at University, knocking the Titans (6-3) out of a share for second place.

NC trailed the third game 13-10. U-Hi missed 26 serves, most of which came in the final three games.

Aimee Wilson had 20 kills and five blocks, and Erin Schumacher 11 digs for NC. Devon Bakken led the Titans with 20 kills, five aces and four blocks.

With Brandy Barratt missing because of a Junior Olympics commitment, Jennifer Williams stepped up for league-leading Gonzaga Prep (9-0) in a 15-7, 15-3, 15-11 win at Central Valley (1-7).
