Guest Speaker Marks Mental Health Center Milestone

To celebrate its 25 years of service, the Community Mental Health Center will stage an anniversary celebration Friday at The Met, from 8 a.m. to noon.

Guest speaker will be Dr. Michael A. Freeman, president of the Institute of Behavioral Health, president of Central Link and editorin-chief of the Behavioral Healthcare Tomorrow Journal.

Freeman will discuss the history, models, strategic challenges and future course of managed behavioral health care.

A panel discussion will follow, representing community experts in the field of mental health. Panel members are Dr. Michael Hendryx, Donna Petty, Steve Covington, Dr. Michael Manz, Linda Cunning, Dr. Andrew Haffey and Rhonda Higgins.

Cleft lip, palate support group

A parent support group for children with cleft lip and palate will meet from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., Thursday, at 140 S. Arthur, Room 415.

The group meets every second Thursday of the month. Programs include guest speakers, video presentations and discussions.

Weight management program

“Weight, Hunger and Health” is a weight management program sponsored by Group Health Northwest.

The program is scheduled for every Wednesday, Oct. 11 through Dec. 6, at the GHN Lidgerwood Health Care Center, 6002 N. Lidgerwood.

The program is geared towards people frustrated with past weight management efforts or who need to lose weight for medical reasons.

The cost is $50 for single members; $85 for couples, which could include an immediate family member. For non-subscribers, the fees are $85 for singles and $120 per couple.

Fibrocystic breast disease

Holy Family Hospital Women’s Health Center will present “Fibrocystic Breast Disease … When a Lump is not Cancer” at the Holy Family Hospital Health Education Center at 7 p.m., Thursday, Oct 19.

Women experiencing the benign disease might have swollen and painful breasts with lumps that feel “ropy” or “granular.”
