Teens’ Plan Earns Ticket To Detention

Two teenagers who tried to catch a flick at the North Division Cinemas Saturday afternoon instead ended up inside the juvenile detention center.

Police said they responded to a call at the theater about 2:15 p.m. The manager had reported that two youths had attempted to pry open an outside door where the movie “Assassins” was playing.

The manager went outside and asked the two what they were doing, police said. They said they were waiting for a friend to pick them up.

The exterior door opens onto an empty field, away from parking. The door had pry marks, police said.

The boys, 16 and 17, were booked on suspicion of second-degree burglary. Police discovered the 17-year-old was on electronic “home monitoring” and required to be home or with his mother. He was also booked on second-degree escape.
