Three Area Scouts Attain Eagle Award

The following scouts have earned their Eagle Scout Award:

Jeremy Phipps, son of Dr. and Mrs. Gerald Phipps, Spokane, is a member of Troop 393 and is a sophomore at Liberty High School. He is active in varsity football and baseball, Future Business Leaders of America, Future Farmers of America, and the Honor Society.

Matthew Hays, a freshman at Evergreen State College, is a 1995 graduate of Central Valley High School and the son of Chuck Hays, Veradale, and the late Lynette Hays.

David Fechner, son of Tony and Pat Fechner, Spokane, is a senior at Mead High School. His Eagle project consisted of surveying an area in the rural communities of Elk and Chattaroy and mapping out locations where he and Troop 13 painted identifying numbers on telephone poles. The numbers enable the local fire department and ambulances to find addresses more quickly during emergencies.

Saneta deVuono-Powell and Eliaishivamw Urio, both students at Lewis and Clark High School, have been named semifinalists in the 1996 National Achievement Scholarship Program.

Tim Coley, a senior at Davenport (Wash.) High School, was awarded a $10,000 scholarship as the 1995 WIAA (Washington Interscholastic Activities Association) Believer and Achiever. Coley is a member of the DHS marching band, honor band and swing choir. He participates in cross country and basketball, and is active in Future Business Leaders of America and participated in the Knowledge Bowl.

William Dirks, son of Michael and Suree Dirks, Spokane, has won two scholarships totaling $2,843 for the 1995-96 academic year at Western Washington University, Bellingham. One scholarship is a $500 Western Foundation Academic Excellence Scholarship, and the other is a second-year $2,343 Washington Scholar Award. He is a sophomore majoring in biology.

Steven Wisener, Spokane, has earned his master of education degree from Western Washington University, Bellingham.

Walter Carlson, Eric Tachell, Lenard Hoener and Michael Ingram, Spokane, have earned associate degrees from ITT Technical Institute.

Benjamin Cartwright, Spokane, has earned a $500 Journalism Anniversary scholarship for the 1995-96 school year at Kansas State University, Manhattan.

Paul Steenblik, vice president and treasurer of Pentzer Corp., Spokane, has been awarded the designation of Chartered Financial Analyst by the Association of Investment Management and Research.

Allen Skidmore, Otis Orchards, has been accepted to the University of Washington School of Medicine for the 1995-96 school year. He is the son of George and DeeAnne Skidmore and is a 1986 graduate of East Valley High School and a 1995 graduate of Brigham Young University.
