Allen Mattausch Honored At Vfw Convention

Allen Mattausch, Fairfield, was named an All American Post Commander for 1994-95 and was honored at the Veterans of Foreign Wars National Convention in Phoenix, Ariz., held in August.

Mattausch is one of only 151 VFW post commanders selected for All American status.

He received the honor based on his outstanding achievement in membership growth, Buddy Poppy sales and other programs that benefit veterans and their communities.

Mattausch, commander of Post 11326, Department of Washington, also earned the All American Post plaque and was appointed as a national aide-de-camp for the 1994-95 administration year.

Sarah Stucky, a 1995 graduate of Gonzaga Prep., has been named a National Forsenic League All-American, placing her in the top 25 out of 85,000 NFL student members.

Stucky and her partner, Missy Longshore, placed fifth in cross-examination debate at the National Debate Tournament last June, the highest finish for a debate team.

Stucky also received a Phillips 66 Performance Award for earning the highest number of speaker points at the tournament.

She is the daughter of Craig and Mary Stucky.

A colored pencil drawing by Claudia Rubio entitled “Faces in a Crown,” has been selected by Saint Mary’s Press for use in “Creating a Christian Lifestyle,” a new textbook to be published next spring.

Rubio, daughter of Guillermo and Alyce Rubio, attends the University of Washington, where she is majoring in biology.

Gene Steinolfson, Inland Power & Light member accounts supervisor, has been named Employee of the Quarter by the Spokane-based electric cooperative.

A resident of Davenport, Wash., Steinolfson joined the staff in September, when his former employer, Lincoln Electric Cooperative, merged with Inland.

He played a key role in the transition period before the merger and is continuing to work on merger-related issues.

Kim Stone, a room attendant at the Spokane Valley Super 8 motel, made the fastest, neatest bed in the International Bedmaking Competition.

It two her two minutes and 14 seconds to finish. She is now eligible to move on to the next round of regional tournaments.

Also placing in the local competition were Margie Sevey with a time of two minutes and 24 seconds, and Parks Franek with a time of two minutes, 25 seconds.

Lars Huschke, Spokane, has won a $2,000 scholarship from the Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design. He is a sophomore industrial design major.
