Survey Says: Tim Still Hammers His Opposition

When it comes to popularity polls, Tim Allen has no room for improvement.

For the third straight year, the “Home Improvement” star topped the Harris Poll of America’s favorite TV personalities.

Jerry Seinfeld placed second in the survey of 1,005 adults, followed by Oprah Winfrey, David Letterman and Bill Cosby.

Rounding out the Top 10 was Roseanne. Not to mention Martin Lawrence, Kelsey Grammer, Brett Butler and Jay Leno.

Lawrence, a newcomer to the list, was the most popular of anyone among viewers aged 18 to 24, Hispanics and African-Americans. Winfrey was No. 1 with women.

Rush Limbaugh, Candice Bergen and Peter Jennings - all members of last year’s Top 10 - dropped out of the running this year.

Yoko Ono will guest star as herself in the Nov. 12 episode of NBC’s hit sitcom “Mad About You,” starring Paul Reiser and Helen Hunt. A series spokesman says John Lennon’s widow is “real good” in her acting debut, adding: “Whatever stigma there was about her before, we popped it on the show.”

Thanks to the militant vegetarianism of Paul and Linda McCartney, ABC rejected ads from Kentucky Fried Chicken and the National Pork Producers Council during its three-part Beatles documentary next month. Sources said network honchos wanted to avoid any potential embarrassment to advertisers should the couple spout off against meat.
