Ewu Freshmen Chosen For University Honors
Several Eastern Washington University freshmen have been selected to participate in University Honors, a freshman-year program for the academically gifted.
The 1995 high school graduates are: Kris Halvorson, Ferris; Kristie Maki, North Central; Kristi Peirone, Lewis and Clark; Elizabeth Reid, University; and Nathan Treff, Mead.
Gonzaga School of Law associate Professor Stephen Sepinuck has been named the winner of the American College of Commercial Finance Lawyers’ annual award for legal writing in the area of commercial finance law.
The award will be presented at the midyear meeting of the American Bar Association in Nashville in February 1996. Sepinuck will be honored for his article titled “A Defense of Extending Article 9 to Cover Security Interests in Deposit Accounts as Original Collateral.”
Several Eastern Washington University freshmen are each recipients of $1,875 University Scholars Award through the University Honors program. The scholars are placed with various academic departments as assistants during their freshman year:
The students, the department placed in and their high school graduated from are: Angela Anderson, Mathematics, Shadle Park; Ginetta Blackhart, Psychology, Ferris; Jennifer Wills, Physical Therapy, North Central; Shannon Craig, Biology, University; Stacy Martin, Business and Economic Research Center, University; Hang Quan, Computer Science, University; and Stephanie Yoke, Psychology, Central Valley.
Several Spokane and Eastern Washington writers were honored as winners at a luncheon for the Washington State World Day of Poetry Contest, sponsored by the Spokane Branch, National League of American Pen Women. The winners were:
Patterned Verse: Ruby Phillipy, first; Gina Stracchino, second; and May Whitney, third.
Free Verse: Ruby Phillipy, first; D. Ortis, Pullman, tied for second; and July Tyus, third.
In the state contest, May Whitney received second and Rebecca Egbert received third in Poetry. In Short Story, May Whitney received third.
In Drama/Play Writing, first place went to May Whitney and second place to Rebecca Egbert.
