Joe Lavender, 45, a cornerback who played for the Washington Redskins in the 1983 Super Bowl, was in critical condition Saturday after crashing his car while allegedly driving drunk in El Centro, Calif., on Thursday.

Lavender played for the Philadelphia Eagles from 1973-75 and the Washington Redskins from 1976-1982. He played college football at San Diego State.
