Cash Likely Motive For Triple Murder

From Staff And Wire Reports

Whoever killed a Lynnwood couple and their son July 4 may have been looking for $100,000 the family was rumored to keep in the house, police say.

Detectives investigating the deaths of Im Suk An, Sung Sook An and their 19-year-old son, Chang, said they were focusing on Chang’s associates, who may have believed the Ans had a lot of money.

Lynnwood Police Sgt. Scott Crichton said Friday that Chang sold methamphetamine to friends and acquaintances and boasted about cash his parents kept at home to some of them.

The couple would bring about $2,000 home from a small grocery they owned near Pike Place Market and keep the thick wad of bills in a satchel.

“Chang would take the bag and show his friends,” Crichton said.

Because the money was in small bills, it looked like a much larger amount and as word spread among Chang’s friends and their associates, the amount grew.

“Next, it’s (estimated at) $100,000,” Crichton said.
