U.S. Rallies To Tie Gold Count
The United States tied Japan for gold medals at the World University Games by winning the final track event, the men’s 1,600-meter relay, in Games’ record time.
Both countries finished with 24 golds, but the Americans had more total medals, 69 to 64.
In the final race, the men’s 1,600, the 200-meter gold medalist, Anthuan Maybank, anchored the Americans to victory in 3 minutes, .40 seconds, breaking the Games record of 3:00.98 set by a U.S. team in 1979.
