Gators Lose Five Players
No. 5 Florida, which was missing 12 players in its opener because of various rules violations and eligibility questions, will apparently lose five more for Saturday’s football game at Kentucky.
Defensive lineman Eric Badeaux was suspended for six games for fighting at an off-campus bar, while linebacker Pat Lowe will have to sit out five games for breaking unspecified athletic department rules.
Three incoming freshmen, defensive tackle Reggie McGrew and cornerbacks Damian Hill and Demetrius Lewis, have yet to be cleared by the NCAA clearing house, which is questioning McGrew’s high school core classes and the others’ ACT entrance exam scores.
Junior running back Mike Mitchell dislocated his left elbow in Stanford’s season opener, and will be out of action up to six weeks.
