Yanchulova Pilots Idaho Over Pilots

Tzvetelina Yanchulova had 25 kills and 12 digs Friday as the University of Idaho’s volleyball team defeated the host Pilots 15-12, 15-9, 10-15, 15-6 at the Portland Invitational.

Louisa Kawulok added 17 digs and five blocks, and Lynee Hyland had 60 assists for the Vandals (5-1). Idaho plays Cal State Sacramento and UC-Irvine today.

Sophomore Shannon Wyckoff’s 13 kills and nine digs led Washington State to a 15-4, 15-10, 15-4 win over Santa Clara at the Wyoming Tournament in Laramie.

Sarah Silvernail added 11 kills and Stephanie Papke had 31 assists for the 19th-ranked Cougars (5-0). Lisa Tozi led the Broncos (0-4) with six kills.The Cougars play the host Cowboys (3-1) tonight.

Gonzaga’s two-year dominance of its Spikeoff Spokane ended when Cal Poly-San Luis Obispo (1-3) rallied for a 6-15, 11-15, 15-2, 15-8, 15-11 win.

Wendy Wilson had 15 kills and Jennifer Kubista 10 for GU (1-5). The loss snapped an 11-game streak in the tournament for the Bulldogs.Spikeoff Spokane concludes today with four matches. GU, after its third consecutive tourney title, plays Boise State and Bowling Green.

Despite a record-setting performance by Kellie Glaus, Eastern Washington (0-3) lost to Cal State Fullerton and the host Bulldogs (6-0) at the Fresno State Tournament.

Glaus tied a tournament record with 10 blocks in EWU’s 15-9, 11-15, 15-9, 15-11 loss to Cal State Fullerton (2-2).EWU freshman Kim Exner had six kills in a 15-5, 15-3, 15-10 loss to the host Bulldogs.

Whitworth stumbled at its 14-team invitational and was eliminated after pool play losses to Albertson, Carroll, Northern Montana and Pacific Lutheran.The Pirates won just one game, 15-13 in the middle game of the Northern Montana match.

PLU, Linfield and Lewis-Clark State finished 3-0 in pool play.
