Dole Welcomes Streisand As Critic

Associated Press

Bob Dole doesn’t seem to mind having entertainment figures opposing him.

Dole, campaigning in Oklahoma on Monday for the GOP presidential nomination, said it “speaks volumes” for his campaign to come under fire first from Madonna and then from Barbra Streisand in a matter of days.

The Senate majority leader has criticized Hollywood for what he calls the “debasing of America” through violence and graphic sex in music and movies.

On Sunday, Streisand suggested it was political opportunism for Dole to attack Hollywood on violence while pushing a GOP agenda that would limit crime controls.

Dole said of Streisand, “I think, first of all, she has a great voice.” He added that “if her judgment matched her voice,” Streisand would be backing his candidacy.

Madonna last week singled out Dole for criticism during an appearance on the MTV Awards ceremony.
