Boeing Workers To Vote On Strike

From Staff And Wire Reports

Members of the Machinists union, worried about high-paying Boeing jobs migrating to subcontractors or overseas, meet today in the Kingdome to vote on whether to strike should contract talks fail.

More than 12,000 Boeing production workers are expected at the meeting, where union officials will outline the Machinists’ proposal for a new three-year contract. The workers will take the day off without pay.

A key element of the union’s proposal is language to severely restrict Boeing’s use of subcontractors and the transfer of union jobs to foreign companies. The proposal also seeks wage increases and lump-sum payments.
