Idaho Has To Settle For 19th At 20-Team Rocky Mt. Classic
The University of Idaho men shot a final-round 310 Wednesday to finish 19th at the 20-team Rocky Mountain Classic golf tournament at Fort Collins, Colo.
Senior J.T. Jones was Idaho’s top placer, in 40th. Jones shot a final-round 78 after rounds of 72 and 76.
Washington State placed 14th with a 907, four shots better than 15th-place Eastern Washington.
WSU’s Sean Clemente shot 222 for 24th place. EWU’s top finisher, Brad West, was 37th with a 224.
Other Idaho finishes were: Tyler Sullivan, 230, 63rd; Jason Hicks, 235, 83rd; John Twining, 237, 89th; and Jason Stephenson, 238, 90th.
Utah State won the tournament with an 870. Host Colorado State was second, two strokes back.
Rich Barcelo of Nevada shot a 211 for the individual title.
Mark Rohde of Valley View Golf Course shot an even-par 72 to finish at 2-under 214 and claim 10th place at the Northwest Open in Bend, Ore.
Rohde earned $1,465.
Chris Mitchell of Sun Dance Golf Course earned $1,340 with an 11th-place finish. Mitchell ended with a 73 for a 215.
Men’s basketball
Former EWU head coach John Wade was officially named an assistant at the University of California-Santa Barbara, finalizing a hiring that was made in early August.
Wade was fired as EWU’s head coach and resigned from the university after last season.
