Cougars, Silvernail Finish Their Task In Little Time
Washington State University, ranked 16th in the USA Today/ AVCA volleyball poll, took only 73 minutes Thursday to defeat Southeast Missouri State 15-6, 15-2, 15-8 in a non-conference match at Pullman.
WSU (7-0) has lost just one game this year. SMS is 6-4.
Sarah Silvernail led WSU with 13 kills. The 6-foot-1 junior middle blocker hit .688 and had four blocks.
WSU freshman Nikki Hubbert had 34 assists. Another frosh, Jen Canevari, had a team-high 11 digs.
Leanne Huffman topped the Indians with eight kills.
WSU opens Pacific-10 Conference play at home today against 12th-ranked USC (2-1).
Ricks’ steady play resulted in a 15-4, 15-5, 15-5 Region 18 win over host North Idaho College (0-1, 5-10).
The Vikings are 2-0 in league. Teena Fortin had 12 kills, Megan Poullion nine assists and Chris Brozik 10 digs for the Cardinals.
