Dodgers Keep Pace With Win Over Cards

Eric Karros hit his third run-scoring single with two outs in the ninth inning and Los Angeles ended St. Louis’ six-game winning streak, 7-6.

The Dodgers survived blowing a three-run lead in the eighth to win for the eighth time in 11 games.

The loss was the first decision of the year for Tom Henke, who leads the National League with 33 saves. It was Henke’s 48th appearance.

Chad Fonville singled with one out in the ninth, stole second with two outs and scored on Karros’ single up the middle. Karros has 15 RBIs in his last 14 games.

The Dodgers are a game behind the Colorado Rockies in the N.L. West.

Braves 3, Reds 1 Cincinnati

Eddie Perez hit a two-run homer in the seventh inning - his first major-league hit - to power Atlanta past Cincinnati. Perez, a catcher making his first major-league start, was one of several reserves in the lineup as the Braves rested injured starters after clinching the N.L. East title Wednesday.

Mets 4, Phillies 1 New York

Todd Hundley drove in three runs and rookie Jason Isringhausen allowed only one run despite giving up a career-high 13 hits to Philadelphia as New York extended its winning streak to three games.

Rockies 6, Marlins 3 Denver

Joe Girardi slapped a two-run single that triggered a four-run seventh inning for Colorado, which posted its 11th victory in 15 games, beating Florida.

Giants 4, Pirates 2 (10) Pittsburgh

Matt Williams’ two-run single in the 10th helped San Francisco end its three-game losing streak.

Astros 7, Expos 3 Montreal

Pinch-hitter Derrick May drove in the go-ahead run and Andy Stankeiwicz added a two-run single in Houston’s three-run seventh against Montreal.

Cubs 6, Padres 2 San Diego

Reliever Bryce Florie walked the first batter he faced with the bases loaded to force in the go-ahead run and Chicago went on to a four-run eighth inning in a victory over San Diego.

Ozzie Smith set the major-league record for double plays by a shortstop, turning his 1,554th in the sixth inning of St. Louis’ game against Los Angeles. … Florida outfielder Andre Dawson has been arrested after a late-night altercation with a valet at a downtown hotel in Denver. Dawson, 41, was released on bond after he was booked for investigation of assault and disturbing the peace, police confirmed. … Montreal infielder Jeff Treadway, 32, retired, ending his nine-year career in the majors that also included stops with Los Angeles, Cincinnati, Atlanta and Cleveland.
