Murder Charges Filed Against 90-Year Old

Compiled From Wire Services

A 90-year-old man told police he strangled his wife of 60 years because he feared no one would care for her if he died, authorities said.

Alfred Pohlmeier was charged Friday with first-degree murder in the death of his 86-year-old wife Lidwina.

Prosecutors said the couple was neither senile nor seriously ill.

“This is a coldblooded murder. It’s not a mercy killing,” Deputy District Attorney Don Glynn said.
