Emergency Room Closed By Strike

Compiled From Wire Services

County-USC Medical Center refused ambulances Monday after emergency room nurses staged a sick-out in a protest against cutbacks in the health-care work force.

Ambulances with trauma patients were sent to other hospitals for three hours, then the giant medical center began accepting those cases and diverting non-trauma ambulances, a hospital spokesman said.

There were no reports of any serious medical complications as a result of the diversions.
