Fair Attendance Takes Dip

Compiled From Wire Services

Attendance at the just-completed Spokane Interstate Fair was down slightly from 1994, but organizers were happy with the numbers.

Fair Manager Paul Gillingham said 284,694 people attended this year’s 10-day fair, which ended Sunday.

In 1994, about 287,000 people attended the fair. About 279,000 attended in 1993.

Gillingham said this year’s fair had more competition, such as the opening of Spokane’s new Arena.

“We were absolutely ecstatic by the numbers,” Gillingham said. “We thought we were going to be a lot further down than that.”
