Haile Gebrselassie’s world record in the 5,000 meters was officially ratified by officials in Monte Carlo, Monaco, while Ivan Pedroso’s disputed long jump mark remained undecided.

The International Amateur Athletic Federation said it had ratified Gebrselassie’s record of 12 minutes, 44.39 seconds, set at Zurich, Switzerland, on Aug. 16.

Pedroso leaped 29-4-3/4 at Sestriere, Italy, surpassing Mike Powell’s record of 29-4-1/2.

But the Italian federation declined to submit the jump for ratification on grounds that an official had interfered with the wind gauge.

The financially plagued New York Games will be moved to Atlanta next year, and the Prefontaine Classic will become a Grand Prix meet in 1996, replacing the Jenner Classsic, sources told The Associated Press.

The New York Games have failed to attract a substantial paid attendance since they began in 1989, the brainchild of the late Fred Lebow. In addition, sponsorship has been difficult to obtain at times.

The Prefontaine Classic at Eugene, Ore. will replace the Jenner Classic, held at San Jose, Calif., since 1977, on the Grand Prix circuit.
