After the Saxons stopped Rogers’ first drive - seven straight carries by Ryan Hill to the Ferris 18 - Tim Benton raced 78 yards on their first play from scrimmage. He ran into traffic up the middle, broke outside and high-stepped his way out of two tackles at the Pirate 15.
Star of the game
Ferris quarterback Justin Bursch completed 18-of-29 passes for 286 yards and four touchdowns, two each to Craig Henneberry and sophomore Jonathan Parker. Bursch narrowly missed back-to-back 300-yard games after throwing for 303 against University last Friday.
Notable
Benton had 153 yards on 11 carries, only three in the second half before he sustained a minor knee injury on defense early in the third period. With the Saxons leading 21-12 at the time, he didn’t return to the game.

Two critical NC penalties spoiled the Indians’ chance at their first victory and helped the Highlanders win their first for new coach Mark Hester. Late in the third period, NC’s Rance McCullough coach Jerry’s son - scooped up an SP fumble and rumbled 86 yards to an apparent touchdown, only to have it erased by a clip at midfield. With 4 minutes left in the game, NC stopped the Scots on downs at the Shadle 17, but the Indians roughed Shadle punter Tim Snell, who four plays and 3 minutes later boomed one 59 yards to the NC 9.

Trevor Walters blocked two first-half North Central field-goal attempts and barely missed a third on Colin Turnbull’s successful 36-yarder.
