Sorenstam Crushes Field With 10-Stroke Victory; Tracy Hanson Fourth
Even a par round on the final day couldn’t take away from Annika Sorenstam’s impressive victory in the GHP Heartland Classic in St. Louis.
Sorenstam, the reigning U.S. Open champion, had a 72 Sunday and that gave her a 10-under-par 278 total, 10 better than runner-up Jan Stephenson.
Tracy Hanson from Rathdrum, Idaho finished tied for fourth, 12 strokes back after shooting a final round 73.
Sorenstram, the 24-year-old from Stockholm, Sweden, had her first bogey of the tournament on the par-4 12th hole of the 6,740-yard Forest Hills Country Club en route to the $78,750 first-place purse.
Robin Walton of Clarkston shot a 78 for a four-day total of 294, 16 shots back.
D.A. Weibring became the first three-time winner in the Quad City Classic in Coal Valley, Ill., holing an 18-foot birdie putt on the final hole for a one-stroke victory over Jonathan Kaye.
Gary Player won his first Senior PGA Tour title in two years, shooting an 8-under-par 64 to overcome a four-stroke deficit in the Bank One Classic in Lexington, Ky.
