Abc Tops Weekly Ratings
Though NBC’s Thursday night powerhouse gave it five of the week’s six most-watched shows, ABC did even better to top the ratings in the second week of the new season, according to Tuesday’s Nielsen ratings.
NBC used its Thursday dominance to showcase two new comedies: “Caroline in the City,” the highest-rated new show, tied for third with “Friends,” while “The Single Guy” ran sixth, behind ABC’s “Home Improvement.”
NBC’s top-rated “ER,” No. 2 “Seinfeld” and “Friends” gave it five of the week’s six most-watched shows, but ABC had 10 of the Top 20 and 19 of the Top 40.
The premiere of ABC’s “Murder One,” at 13th was the week’s highest-rated new drama, while the second-highest one-hour premiere was NBC’s “JAG” in 41st.
For the week of Sept. 18-24, ABC led with a 12.4 rating and a 21 percent share of the audience; NBC had an 11.6 average, 19 share, and CBS was third with a 9.9 rating, 16 share.
The Fox Broadcasting Co., programming 15-1/2 of the 22 prime-time hours, earned a 7.9 rating, 13 share.
