Man Shoots Off His Toe With 12-Gauge Shotgun
A 25-year-old North Spokane man shot off his toe Saturday while talking with friends about an upcoming hunting trip.
Brian Daughery was at a friend’s house at 500 W. Barnes Road Saturday afternoon when he put two shells in a 12-gauge shotgun, according to the Spokane County sheriff.
Daughery told deputies that he forgot how many shells he had put in the gun. While talking with friends, he took one round out.
Standing up and with the gun resting against his shoe, Daughery pulled the trigger, blasting off the second toe on his right foot and opening a hole in the floor.
He was taken to Holy Family
Hospital and released Sunday.
Music leads to fight
A pair of party-goers raised a ruckus Saturday night when they didn’t like the music being played at a party.
Around midnight, two men at a party at 2409 E. Bruce complained about music, apparently rock ‘n’ roll, being played. When the music wasn’t changed, a man grabbed another male party-goer and held a knife to his throat. The two scuffled, and the man with the knife cut the other party-goer on the ear.
The party quickly moved outside, where a brawl erupted between the two men and others at the party. A neighbor across the street, Sam Calvert, saw four separate fights.
One man was hit over the head four times, another had a bottle broken over his head. No ambulance was called because party-goers left quickly after police were called, Calvert said.
“It was one of the most childish things I have ever seen,” said Calvert, a senior finance major at Gonzaga University.
Calvert and other neighbors have previously complained about parties at the house and are considering a petition if they don’t stop.
