Paint A Vision For All To See

Anne Windishar Staff writer

If you’re a “have brush/will travel” kind of artist, you won’t want to miss the block-long concrete canvas in the East Central neighborhood on Saturday.

The Spokane Arts Commission and the East Central Community Center are inviting people to help paint the third People’s Gallery, on Altamont between Third and Fourth avenues, from 9 a.m. to noon.

United Paint is donating the paint; you just need to show up with brushes and an idea.

“We never know what to expect,” said Sue Ellen Heflin, arts director for the commission. “People can be really creative with these things.”

Spokane’s other two galleries are between Post and Wall streets near Joel furniture store and on the north side of the Maple Street Bridge. The Altamont site offers a chance to beautify the neighborhood while bringing people together, says East Central Community Center director Diane Jennings.

“It gives people a chance to come together and make a positive mark,” Jennings said.

And her plans for what she’ll paint?

“I have no idea,” she said with a laugh, “but I’m bringing a big brush.”
