Panhandle Picks With Greg Lee

I can start polishing my victory speech. How can I say this in a humble way? I can’t. I kicked the stuffing out of another guest last week.

I wasn’t perfect, but I correctly called 8 of 10 games including Post Falls’ 41-20 streak-breaking win over Lewiston.

My guest, Sandpoint principal A.C. Woolnough, had a rough week, batting a mere .500 (5 of 5). Going into the fifth week, the scoreboard reads: Lee 36-6 (.857), Guests 29-13 (.690).

We dip into the local media pool for this week’s guest, longtime voice of KVNI sports broadcasts, Jeff McLean.

We figure McLean to be an easy foe, especially considering he was recently married and has, according to our sources deep within KVNI, had difficulty concentrating on his work.

GAME OF THE WEEK

It’s time for my upset special of the year. I’ve got such a big lead I can afford to be bold on a few picks.

Sandpoint is heavily favored to beat Lake City. And the game is at Barlow Stadium. Sandpoint has a proven offensive threat in running back Jeremy Thielbahr. LC? It is still looking for an offense, let alone a threat.

LC played as poorly as it has all season in a 41-17 loss at Moses Lake last week. Coach Van Troxel held a 30-minute barbecue afterward.

Well-toasted, I see the Timberwolves breaking through for their first win ever. LC 17, Sandpoint 14.

Guest: The Timberwolves continue to make strides. But too much Thielbahr. Sandpoint 28, Lake City 14.

Coeur d’Alene at Moscow: My sources tell me the wheels are falling off at Coeur d’Alene. Meanwhile, Moscow coach Eric Bjorkman appears to have the Bears’ wheels well-balanced.

Guest: CdA gets back on track and so does Nick Rook, who should be back as No. 1 QB. CdA 16, Moscow 14.

Post Falls at Shadle Park: The Trojans have an opportunity to impress Greater Spokane League fans at Albi Stadium. They caught Rogers’ attention last year.

Shadle Park was picked to finish last in the GSL this year. Post Falls picks up another win on the way to an undefeated regular season. PF 34, SP 17.
