Fran Fraschilla is expected to be named the next St. John’s University men’s basketball coach by midweek.

A person close to the situation who insisted on anonymity said that the St. John’s athletic director, Ed Manetta, had chosen Fraschilla over Florida State’s Pat Kennedy and Bradley’s Jim Molinari after meeting with Fraschilla late last week for a second interview.

The same person said that the hiring of Fraschilla, the Manhattan College coach, to replace Brian Mahoney, who was dismissed, should be announced today or Wednesday.

One of two women indicted with Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Michael Irvin on drug charges is now accused of misdemeanor assault following a traffic accident, Dallas police said.

Jasmine Nabwangu, 21, of Irving likely will be issued a citation for allegedly slapping a woman motorist after a collision Saturday, police said.

Nabwangu swerved in front of another car and hit her brakes, causing the other car to hit hers, police said. When the women pulled over, Nabwangu “slapped the complainant with her hand across the left side of her face,” police said.
