Hints From Heloise
Dear Heloise: Another great water-saving idea is to run the faucet (shower/sink) into a bucket until the water gets hot. This will save at least a gallon per shower, especially in cold weather.
I use this “extra” to water plants both inside and out or for washing floors. There are hundreds of uses. I have done this for the last 15 years, even when it is raining outside! - Beverly Collins, Penn Valley, Calif.
Dear Heloise: I would like to respond to the reader from Cibolo, Texas, who wrote about avoiding burns when transporting a slow cooker. Put your slow cooker in a carton with crumpled newspapers around it to make it fit tightly. Also, tape the lid shut with masking tape crisscrossed to the sides. This will not spoil the pot or burn. - Marjorie A. Miller, Mansfield, Ohio
