Hints From Heloise

King Features Syndicate

Dear Heloise: When we had a garage sale before moving, we did something that made it much easier for us and also created good will.

We didn’t need to have change, as we sold only by dollar amounts, from $1 up. We put up a sign reading, “We have tried to price fairly and don’t have time to bargain on every item.” No one made lower offers.

Because we wanted to stick to paper money only, anything damaged or worth less than a dollar was put in a pile under a sign reading, “Help Yourself.”

Our $800 sale was a great success for us and not a single item was left in the “help yourself” pile! - Satisfied, Boca Raton, Fla.

Another great garage sale hint to help eliminate some of the bargaining, hassle and distraction of having to make change. - Heloise
