Whitworth Students Qualify For Laureate Membership

Several Inland Northwest students attending Whitworth College recently qualified for Laureate Society membership:

Emily B. Nordhagen, Chattaroy; Leah R. Bean, Cheney; Rachelle D. Van Dyke, Elk; Kristin A. Olson, Fairfield; Shelly J. Maak, Greenacres; Joseph S. Feider and Elizabeth E. Wright, both of Nine Mile Falls; and Carianne P. Smith, Veradale.

Anngela Groke, a sophomore at Medical Lake High School, took third prize in the state-wide scholastic competition sponsored by the Washington Association for Biomedical Research.

The essay topic was “Explain how animals play a vital role in lifesaving research in one of the following areas: drug abuse/addiction; cancer; transplants; AIDS; sexually transmitted diseases.”

Groke won $150. Laura S. Patrick, a sophomore at Medical Lake, and Sara Lea Hamilton, a senior at East Valley High School, each received an honorable mention and $50.

Linda Massey, professor and coordinator of the food science and human nutrition program at Washington State University at Spokane, received the Excellence in Clinical Practice and Research Award from the state Dietetic Association.

Jennifer K. Hebb, daughter of David and Barbara Hebb, Spokane, has been named to the Dean’s List at the University of Puget Sound for the fall semester. She is a 1993 graduate of Mead High School. Hebb, a junior majoring in biology, has been involved in Intervarsity Christian Fellowship, Habitat for Humanity, and biology club. She was recently inducted into Phi Sigma, the national biology honor society.
