Don’t Let Worries Get The Upper Hand
“What? Me Worry?” will be the topic of discussion at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, April 25, at Holy Family Hospital’s education center.
Fear and anxiety are a normal part of life - but fear and worry gone awry can become so overwhelming that they interfere with enjoyment of life and productivity.
Tricia Goodman will discuss the forms and levels of the intensity of anxiety, ranging from a twinge of uneasiness to a full-blown panic attack.

Why it hurts
Pack a sandwich and head for the Deaconess Medical Center’s Room 265 at noon today to learn about “Pain: Solving the Puzzle of How and Why It Hurts.”
Dr. Roberto Auffant and nurses Kathy McDonald and Diane Molsberry will discuss what pain is, why it’s often overlooked and what’s new in pain treatment.
The session is free for members of Women’s Health Network or Health Access, and $5 for non-members. Free parking is available in the Deaconess parking garage, 910 W. Fifth. And, beverages will be provided to go with your brownbag lunch.
How-to class: Stop smoking
A physician-directed stop smoking clinic begins at 7:30 Tuesday in Classroom B of the Valley Hospital and Medical Center.
The program is designed to help smokers quit the habit through behavior modification and group support. Other issues will also be dealt with, like exercise, weight and stress management.
Tuesday’s orientation class is free. The clinic, however, costs $100 for members of Women’s Health Network or Health Access, and $150 for non-members.

Oh, those aching legs
For those who suffer with aching, cramping legs while they’re walking, help is here.
Those with such complaints - usually occurring in people over 50 - might be suffering from peripheral arterial disease (PAD). Free screenings will be given Friday at Deaconess and Valley medical centers.

Walking program
The American Volkssport Association has a New Walker Packet for those who want to start a walking program.
The $5 packet includes two achievement books, a “credit” stamp to record events and kilometers walked, and coupons for walking-related goods. The packet has a retail value of $20.
