Sylvia Quinn Receives Exchange Club Award

Sylvia Quinn has received the Downtown Exchange Club’s annual Book of Golden Deeds Award.

Quinn is a charter member and past president of the Bloomsday Road Runner’s Club and was race director for Bloomsday from 1982 to 1991. She has volunteered as assistant coach for Ferris High School girls cross-country and track teams for 15 years, is the YWCA Running Fitness director, registration director for the Junior Bloomsday Association and has served as race director for SCAN Road Races, Troika Triathlon and the YWCA Women’s Run.

She is also president elect of the SCAN board and serves on the St. Anne’s Infant Home Auxiliary, Fairchild Air Force Base Family Service Organization and volunteers with the American Red Cross.

Trilby C.E. Dorn has been elected editor-in-chief for the Tulane Environmental Law Journal at Tulane Law School, New Orleans. Dorn is a 1988 graduate of St. George’s School and a 1992 honors graduate of Swarthmore College. She is the daughter of Karen Dorn Steele and Charles S. Dorn, both of Spokane.

Carol J. Hauer, a student at Spokane Community College, was the only Inland Northwest student named to the first All-Washington Academic Team for community and technical colleges.

The 43 students will be honored Thursday at a reception in the Governor’s Mansion. They were nominated for recognition through a national program conducted by Phi Theta Kappa.

Bridget Curran, a freshman majoring in vocal performance at the University of Montana, won first place in the Collegiate Women’s lower division of the Montana Central/East Chapter of National Association of Teachers of Singing competition. Curran is a 1995 graduate of Gonzaga Prep.

Doug Tooke, Spokane, was a member of the winning team in senior parliamentary debate at the Northwest Conference Regional Championship at Whitman College. Tooke is a sophomore at Carroll College in Helena.

Tooke and his partner also placed first in the senior duo interpretation competition.
