Janette Houss Spokane
Graveside service for Janette E. Houss, 85, will be at 1:30 p.m. today at Fairmount Memorial Park. Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-North is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Houss, who died Thursday, was born in Seattle.
In 1950 she moved to Spokane from Metaline Falls, Wash.
She worked as a bookkeeper for the Navy in Bremerton during World War II.
She later worked for the YMCA, Montgomery Wards and, for 11 years, with the state as a bookkeeper at Eastern State Hospital. She retired in 1975.
She was a member of the Ivanhoe Chapter No. 80 Order of the Eastern Star, White Shrine and the Eagles Auxiliary.
Mrs. Houss is survived by her husband of 64 years, Elmer Houss; one daughter, Alta Ingram of San Jose, Calif.; one brother, Charles Hansen of Friday Harbor, Wash.; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Irene Doerschlag Sprague, Wash.
Visitation for Irene Louise Doerschlag, 84, is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. today at Danekas Funeral Home in Ritzville, Wash. Service will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Sprague. Vault burial will follow at Maccabee Cemetery in Sprague.
Mrs. Doerschlag, who died Sunday at Lake Ridge Care Facility in Moses Lake, was born in Sprague.
She graduated from high school in Sprague and married Arthur Doerschlag in 1942 in Grangeville, Idaho. They settled in Sprague and farmed with Mr. Doerschlag’s brother, Ralph, for more than 48 years.
Mrs. Doerschlag had lived in Moses Lake for the past five years.
She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church and several bridge clubs in Sprague.
She is survived by her husband of Ritzville; and one brother, Ralph Schirr of Las Vegas, Nev.
Daniel Rosa Spokane
Funeral Mass for Daniel E. Rosa, 62, will be at 10 a.m. today at St. Mary Catholic Church. Burial will be at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Trentwood.
Mr. Rosa, a 49-year Spokane resident, died Thursday. He was born in Salt Lake City.
He graduated from Gonzaga University and was a civil engineer. He was the owner of Rosa Inc.
He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church.
He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Maryalice Rosa; two daughters, Anna Hunton of Goose Creek, S.C., and Melinda Yaeger of Spokane; one brother, James Rosa of Newman Lake; one sister, Helen Eller of Newman Lake; and three grandchildren.
Pauline Wooddell Spokane
Graveside service for Pauline S. Wooddell, 92, will be at 10 a.m. today at Riverside Memorial Park. Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Wooddell, a 66-year Spokane resident, died Friday. She was born in Ohio.
She was a laundry worker at Fairchild Air Force Base.
Her husband, Herman, died in 1977.
She is survived by one son, Arthur Wooddell of Spokane; one brother, Sam Schaffer of Spokane; seven grandchildren and several great and great-great-grandchildren.
Carol Scherer Colbert
Vigil service for Carol S. Scherer, 46, will be at 7 p.m. today at Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home. Funeral Mass is set for 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Entombment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.
Mrs. Scherer, a lifetime Spokane resident, died Friday.
She worked as a facilities technician for US West Communications and had worked there since 1969.
She was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America and was a Union Steward for Communication Workers of America Local 7818.
She is survived by her husband, Terry Scherer, Colbert; one son, Kevin Scherer, and one daughter, Kristi Scherer, both of Colbert; her mother, Patricia Herberholz of Spokane; two brothers, Larry Herberholz of Liberty Lake, and Randy Herberholz of McAllen, Texas; three sisters, Janice Wilson of Tacoma, and Kathy Speller and Karen Westberg, both of Spokane.
Freda Griffith Spokane
Visitation for Freda E. Griffith, 100, is scheduled from 3 to 8 p.m. today at Hazen and Jaeger Valley Funeral Home. Service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Rockford.
Mrs. Griffith died Sunday. She was born in Lake Creek, Idaho.
She was a homemaker and had lived in Spokane for 49 years.
She was a member of Opportunity Presbyterian Church.
Her husband of 67 years, Charles Griffith, died in 1984.
Survivors include four daughters, Margaret Woodard of Bryson City, N.C., Helen Schmidt of Grants Pass, Ore., Ruth Hanrahan of Cheney and Erma Crews of Fall City, Wash.; one son, Dan Griffith of Opportunity; one sister, Margarite Weitkamp of Gig Harbor, Wash.; 15 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Genevieve Sharp Spokane
Visitation for Genevieve E. Sharp, 89, is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today at Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home. Service will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with burial to follow at Moran Prairie Cemetery.
Mrs. Sharp, who died Thursday, was born in Denver.
She moved to Spokane when she was four and graduated from North Central High School and Kelsey-Baird Secretarial School.
She worked for the Federal Land Bank for 35 years and retired as an executive secretary in 1972.
She was a member of Audubon Park United Methodist Church and the Elderberries.
Her husband of 55 years, Virgil Sharp, died in 1984.
She is survived by one daughter, Diane Sharp of Spokane and one son, Bob Sharp of Dallas.

Elizabeth Ackerman Greenacres
Rosary for Elizabeth “Betty” Ackerman, 97, will be at 7 p.m. today at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Otis Orchards. Funeral Mass is planned for 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the church. Burial will be at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Trentwood. Thornhill Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Ackerman, who died Friday, was born in Austria.
Her family homesteaded in North Dakota and in 1918 she married Jake Ackerman in North Dakota.
The couple moved to the Spokane area in 1943, from Mullan, Idaho, where they had lived for 18 years.
Mrs. Ackerman was a homemaker and was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church and Altar Society.
Her husband died in 1973.
Survivors include one daughter, Frances Tainio, and one son, Wayne Ackerman, both of Otis Orchards; six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.

Erma Kincaid Spokane
No service will be held for Erma (Bowman) Kincaid, at her request.
Mrs. Bowman, 99, died Saturday. She was born in Hartline, Wash.
She taught school in Dayton, Wash., and then enrolled in the BenkleWalker Business College in Portland. She later become a telegrapher and claims adjuster in Portland during World War II.
In 1919 she married Frank Kincaid. He died in 1973.
They had lived in Omak, Wash., and Montana, before they moved to Spokane in 1946. She was a homemaker.
Mrs. Kincaid was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Listener’s Club, Kappa Tau, the Monitor Club and First Church of Christ, Scientist.
She had lived in Seattle for the past 1-1/2 years.
Survivors include one son, John Kincaid of Spokane; one daughter, Shirleyann Horning of Vancouver, Wash.; six grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Barbara Devine Spokane
Vigil service for Barbara J. Devine, 61, will be at 5:30 p.m. today at Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home. Memorial Mass will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Thomas More Catholic Church. There will be private inurnment.
Mrs. Devine died Friday. She was born in Rosalia, Wash.
She was a banquet waitress and was a member of St. Thomas More Catholic Church. She was active with the Spokane Guild’s School.
Survivors include her husband, Ronald Devine of Spokane; one son, David Devine of Spokane; four daughters, Diana Devine, Christine Groom and Susan Brown, all of Spokane, and Deborah Anderson of Davenport, Wash.; one sister, Lois Nelson of Spokane; and eight grandchildren.

Marian Atkins Spokane
Graveside service for Marian E. Atkins, 62, was Monday at Greenwood Memorial Terrace.
Born in Spokane, Mrs. Atkins died April 9 in Reno, Nev., where she was on vacation.
She was a homemaker.
She is survived by her husband of 43 years, Harold Atkins; three sons, William and Harold Atkins, both of Spokane, and Leonard Atkins of Tacoma; one daughter, Melanie Atkins of Spokane; and five grandchildren.
Donald Colpitts Spokane
Memorial service for Donald B. Colpitts, 80, will be at 11 a.m. today at Millwood Community Presbyterian Church.
Mr. Colpitts died Friday. He was born in Forest Glen, New Brunswick, and moved to the United States when he was seven.
He graduated from Whitworth College and worked as a cereal chemist for General Mills. He transferred to Minneapolis in 1964 and retired in 1981 after 42 years.
After he retired, he and his wife, Nadine, moved to Cave Bay, Idaho.
He served in the Army during World War II.
Mr. Colpitts is survived by his wife of 44 years; one daughter, Carol Krieger; two sons, Alan and Don Colpitts; one brother, Greg Colpitts; and six grandchildren.

Dolores ‘Bobbie’ Null Odessa, Wash.

Mrs. Null, who was born in Black Diamond, Wash., died Friday.
She was a homemaker and was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church and Altar Society. She was also a member of the Odessa Riders Club, Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary, and was a HOSTS volunteer in Odessa School District.
She is survived by her husband of 46 years, Earl Null; four daughters, Pam Williams, Carol Bell, Debby Walter and Jean Starkel, all of Odessa; one son, Tom Null of Odessa; one sister, Linda Ingraham of Cashmere, Wash.; one brother, John Gray of Spokane; 13 grandchildren and six greatgrandchildren.
Leslie ‘Heck’ Schluneger Pateros, Wash.
Graveside service for Leslie Carl “Heck” Schluneger, 77, will be at 1 p.m. today at Onecho Cemetery near Colfax, Wash. Memorial service will be held at a later date in Pateros. Bruning Funeral Home in Colfax, is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Schluneger, a former Whitman County resident, died Friday at Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane. He was born in Colfax.
In 1955 he moved to Okanogan County and was a cattle rancher in Pateros. He retired in 1980.
He married Marjorie Unruh in 1957 in Okanogan, Wash.
He is survived by his wife; two sons, Lee and Peter Schluneger; three daughters, Joanne Kestner, and Vivian and Margaret Schluneger, all of Pateros; three brothers, Earl, Elmer, and Ed Schluneger, and two sisters, Leona Conrad and Virginia Morgan, all of Colfax; five grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.

Norris Beardsley Spokane
Funeral Mass for Norris R. Beardsley, 76, will be at 1 p.m. today at St. Thomas More Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. Riplinger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Beardsley, who died Friday, was a lifetime Spokane resident.
He worked as a groundskeeper and retired from the Spokane Country Club.
He was a member of St. Thomas More Catholic Church, and served in the Army during World War II.
His wife, Shirley, died in 1995.
He is survived by one son, Dale Beardsley of Spokane; three daughters, Bridget Hoke of Spokane, Helen Hill of Kalama, Wash., and Collen Foleen of Copperas Cove, Texas; eight grandchildren, one stepgrandchild and three stepgreat-grandchildren.
Francis Brandt Spokane
Service for Francis Howard Brandt, 68, was Monday at Riplinger Funeral Home. Burial will be at Spokane Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Brandt died Friday. He was a lifetime Spokane resident.
He had worked as a welder and was a member of the Boilermakers Union.
He owned and operated Fullers Resort on Badger Lake with his family for 27 years.
Mr. Brandt was a member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
He is survived by his wife, Dolores Brandt; two daughters, Tery Cunningham of Spokane and Kristin Oberg of Cheney; one brother, Charles Brandt of Colville, Wash.; one sister, Beverly Ethridge of Deer Park; and three grandchildren.
Robert Stevens Clayton, Wash.
Memorial service for Robert H. Stevens, 66, was Saturday at Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home.
He had lived in Spokane for 30 years and worked as a pharmacist, principally with Osco Drug at NorthTown. He had lived in Clayton for four years.
His wife Betty Lou Stevens, died in 1983.
He is survived by two daughters, Elizabeth Bishop of Tucson, Ariz., and Barbara Stevens of Spokane; one son, Robert Stevens of Seattle; two sisters, Lois Ott and Shirley Best, both of Modesto, Calif.; and two grandchildren.
Hellen Klamm Spokane
Memorial service for Hellen F. Klamm, 71, will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-South.
Born in Sydney, Mont., Mrs. Klamm died Saturday at home.
She graduated from high school in Montana, and also graduated from nursing school.
In 1950, she married Robert Klamm in Missoula. They moved to Spokane in 1964 and Mrs. Klamm worked as a nurse and was a homemaker. She was also a doll artist, and was a foster mother to more than 180 children.
She was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary and Phi Beta Kappa sorority.
She is survived by her husband, Bob Klamm; two daughters, Sharon Dudoit of Garden Grove, Calif., and Phyllis Bertash of Seattle; one sister, Hazel Greff of Missoula; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Aloysous ‘Bud’ Haverkamp Kettle Falls, Wash.
No service will be held for Aloysous “Bud” Haverkamp, 79. Cremation has taken place. Danekas Funeral Chapel in Colville, Wash., is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Haverkamp, a former Spokane resident, died Thursday. He was born in Ogema, Minn.
In 1944 he moved to Lind, Wash. He married Kathryn Mitchell in 1949 in Lewiston and they lived in Sprague. Mr. Haverkamp worked as a machinist and mechanic. He also served on the Sprague Volunteer Fire Department.
In 1957 they moved to Spokane and he worked for the Carburetor and Electric Shop downtown and for Spokane Armature. He retired in 1978 and they moved to Kettle Falls, Wash., in 1987.
Mr. Haverkamp is survived by his wife; four daughters, Carole Harris of Puyallup, Wash., Rose Harney of Spokane, Doris Hamamoto of San Jose, Calif., and Norma Barton of Post Falls; three sons, Delmar Hancock of Roy, Wash., Delbert Hancock of Everett and Lynn Hancock of Kettle Falls; two sisters, Delores Wirtz and Charlotte Groth, both of Spokane; two brothers, Douglas Haverkamp of Othello, Wash., and Bill Haverkamp of Ogema; 27 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.
Wilma Christopherson Mullan, Idaho
Service for Wilma Joanne Christopherson, 58, will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Mullan. Burial will follow at Mountain View Cemetery in Mullan. Shoshone Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Christopherson, who was born in Seattle, died Sunday.
She moved to Mullan in 1938, where she grew up and was educated. She later became a homemaker.
Survivors include her husband of 41 years, Richard; two sons, Rick of Boise and Ron of Mullan; four grandchildren, Scott, Keith, Jason and Erika; and three cousins, Jean Denbigh and Margaret Hagle, both of Spokane, and Joanne Pollard of Pinehurst, Idaho.
Frank Erickson Spokane
Memorial service for Frank H. Erickson, 76, was Monday at Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home. Inurnment will be at Holy Cross Cemetery.
Mr. Erickson, who was born in Cumberland, Wis., died Thursday.
He had lived in Spokane for 50 years and was a member of Operating Engineers Union Local 370.
He was also a member of St. Charles Catholic Church, the Eagles Lodge, the Moose Lodge and served in the Army in World War II.
Mr. Erickson is survived by his wife of 26 years, Janet Erickson; three sons, Frank and Daniel Erickson, both of Spokane, and Mike Erickson of Clarkston, Wash.; one stepson, Larry Garbarino of Spokane; four daughters, Linda Wirtz of Chattaroy, Kathleen McCorgary of Spokane, and Christina and Lisa Erickson, both of Medical Lake; two brothers, Robert Erickson of Spencer Lake, Wis., and Carl Erickson of Cumberland; and 20 grandchildren.

Lydia Greenwalt Odessa, Wash.

Mrs. Greenwalt died Saturday in Moses Lake, where she had recently moved. She was born in Russia.
She was a homemaker and was a member of Christ Lutheran Church.
Her husband of 63 years, Jacob Greenwalt, died in 1995.
She is survived by six sons, Walter Greenwalt of Lynnwood, Wash., David and Robert Greenwalt, both of Odessa, Leo Greenwalt of Moscow, Idaho, Melvin Greenwalt of Ritzville, Wash., and Marvin Greenwalt of Moses Lake; one brother, Art Kulm of Lind, Wash.; 18 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Walter Schnabel Spokane
Service for Walter E. Schnabel, 93, will be at noon today at Riplinger Funeral Home. Private burial will follow at Fairmount Memorial Park.
Mr. Schnabel, a lifetime Spokane resident, died Friday.
He was a Lewis and Clark High School graduate and owned Schnabel’s Grocery and Market at Fifth and Sherman Streets, with his late brother Frank.
He also owned and trained race horses.
He served in the Army during World War II.
Mr. Schnabel is survived by five nephews, Jerry Andrews and Richard Lentz, both of Spokane, Jack Suhadolnik of Mukilteo, Wash., Phillip Suhadolnik of Yakima and Jack Schnabel of California; two nieces, Margaret Kilcup of Spokane and Mary Eliason of Seattle.
Daisy Smith Spokane
Service for Daisy Lorraine Smith, 73, will be at 10 a.m. today at Riplinger Funeral Home. Private burial will be at Pinecrest Cemetery in Sandpoint.
Mrs. Smith, who was born in Absarokee, Mont., died Friday.
She had lived in Spokane for more than 31 years and worked as a cook.
She was a member of the Women’s Home League and supported the Salvation Army.
She is survived by one son, Don Blackmore of Dover, Idaho; two granddaughters and four great-grandchildren.
