You Can Afford Your Own Style
Billboard apparel, clothing featuring company logos and team symbols, is the foundation of many teen and preteen wardrobes. From Starter jackets to Nike Air Jordan shoes, you can see dozens of examples of this fashion statement at any school on a given day.
But this line of clothing comes with a hefty price tag. T-shirts or shorts start around $18. Shoes go from $40 to $140. Jackets like the pros wear start at $100. One example of a typical adolescent’s choice of clothing includes the following: a Quarterback sweat shirt for $69.99 and Levi’s 560 denim shorts for $24.99. Add $49.99 for the Puma shoes and the total comes to $144.97.
To bring the cost down, we shopped the local thrift stores and came up with some great deals.
A Logo 7 sweat shirt cost $3.99. We found Levi’s 560 denim shorts that are brand new and only $3.99. But we still needed shoes.
We do not advocate buying used shoes. Our feet are too important to make them conform to someone else’s shoe. We do, however, promote shopping outlet stores, which is where we found Pumas for $14.90. Our grand total for the value-priced outfit is $22.88. This is a savings of $122.09. Now you have enough left over to buy three or four more items at the thrift store plus another two pairs of shoes. What a bargain!
If you have never shopped at a thrift store, we recommend trying it. The quality of the clothing is usually very good and the prices are unbelievable. But this type of shopping is not for everyone. Not everyone likes the idea of wearing previously owned clothing. Other drawbacks include the fact that everything is usually one of a kind and what’s here today will almost always be gone tomorrow. You really need to shop around to see what’s available.
