Tyson Accuser Goes Public

Compiled From Wire Services

LaDonna August didn’t go to a Chicago nightclub looking for boxer Mike Tyson, nor did she seek him out once she was there.

Instead, the beautician was getting her coat to leave April 7 when she was attacked by the heavyweight champion, her attorney, Charles Graddick, said during a Tuesday news conference in Gary, Ind.

August was in a private, upstairs room at The Clique, a popular night spot on Chicago’s south side, when she ran into Tyson, Graddick said. Someone introduced the two, then that person left, he said.

According to Graddick, that’s when Tyson, convicted of rape in 1992, made inappropriate advances, including fondling.

August left the club with friends and went to a Chicago-area hospital. Contrary to earlier reports, Graddick said the 25-year-old August reported the incident before she went to the hospital. She filed a complaint April 9. August did not speak publicly Tuesday.

Tyson has not been charged, but Chicago police said August told police enough during a 2-hour interview Monday to keep the investigation alive.

Larry Holmes, 46 and showing little mobility, scored a 10-round unanimous decision over Quinn Navarre in Bay St. Louis, Miss. The ex-heavyweight champion intends to fight once more.
