Bosnia Foes Miss Pullback Deadline

Compiled From Wire Services

Despite honest efforts to comply, Bosnia’s former warring parties will miss by weeks a deadline to pull back soldiers and heavy weapons, a spokesman for the NATO-led peace force said Thursday.

Under the U.S.-brokered peace accord, the parties had a midnight Thursday deadline to withdraw 150,000 soldiers to their barracks and move 800 tanks, 1,300 artillery pieces and thousands of mortars and anti-aircraft weapons to storage sites.

NATO officials said Thursday that despite diligent efforts, the steps probably will not be complete for several weeks.
