Minor Earthquakes Strike San Andreas Fault
A pair of minor earthquakes struck the San Andreas fault on Thursday, the anniversary of the devastating 1906 San Francisco earthquake.
There were no immediate reports of injuries or serious damage from the two quakes, both centered on a section of the fault near San Juan Bautista, about about 15 miles north of Salinas, and 81 miles southeast of San Francisco.
The first quake hit at 4:21 p.m. and measured 3.8 in magnitude, followed by a second at 5:55 p.m. that measured 4.7, according to the U.S. Geological Survey in Menlo Park.
