Timeline Short To Choose New Shadle Principal

Spokane School District will have a fairly short timeline in which to select a successor to Shadle Park principal Mike Dunn.

Rather than having five months to research and sort through dozens of applications, as the Mead School District did in selecting Dunn, the Spokane School District needs to appoint his successor by the end of June.

“We wish we were in Mead’s position,” sighed district personnel director Mark Anderson. “I guess someone has to get bumped in this.”

The selection process will include some community input, but Anderson doesn’t know if public meetings with candidates will be held.

Ads will be posted at university and college placement offices and placed in major trade publications, Anderson said.

Spokane School District has not selected a new high school principal since Dunn was hired in 1990.

The school district also is hiring two elementary school principals. One will succeed Nelda Gaffney at Indian Trail Elementary, who is retiring. Anderson declined to identify the second opening.
