Shot Fired After Fight Over Coat Dispute Leads To Attempted Murder Charge Against Coeur D’Alene Teen

Robert Landrum admits he urged an armed man to shoot at him Wednesday night.

But “I didn’t think he would do it,” Landrum, 19, of Coeur d’Alene, said.

An 18-year-old Coeur d’Alene man was charged with attempted second-degree murder Thursday after he took a shot at Landrum during an argument over a coat, according to a Coeur d’Alene police report.

Christopher L. Tucker also was charged with aggravated assault for aiming the gun at another man.

About 9:45 p.m. Wednesday, Landrum and three of his friends drove to the apartment where Tucker was staying on River Avenue. They were trying to get back a jacket Tucker had taken from one of Landrum’s friends, according to the police report.

When they arrived at the apartment, Tucker was sitting in an open window on the second floor holding a gun. The group began arguing with Tucker about the coat, according to the report. The apartment manager told them to quiet down, so the group went into Tucker’s apartment. Tucker agreed to return the coat in exchange for $20.

When the group went back to their car, Tucker again was standing above them in the window with his gun, according to the report.

Landrum and Tucker started yelling at each other as Tucker waved the gun and threatened to shoot, according to the report.

“Then why don’t you just shoot?” Landrum taunted.

The bullet whistled past Landrum’s ear, lodging in the hood of the car.

“I felt it go by, there was a lot of wind and a sharp pain (from) the loudness of it,” Landrum said, explaining that he ran and hid behind a corner of the building.

The group was able to flee to safety in their car and police arrested Tucker a short time later.

In addition to attempted murder, Tucker also was charged with carrying a concealed weapon for having a dagger in his jacket, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Tucker is being held at the Kootenai County Jail on $100,000 bail.
