Aussie Boxer Collapses

Compiled From Wire Services

Australian featherweight boxer Lance Hobson was in critical condition in a Melbourne hospital after collapsing in the sixth round of an eight-round fight.

The 23-year-old Hobson stumbled from his stool and crashed to the canvas with his opponent Liu Gang of China still in his corner in the fight at the Glasshouse.

Neurosurgeons at a Melbourne hospital later removed a blood clot from outside the boxer’s brain and officials said the operation appeared to be a success.
