Dollar Drops Against Mark, Yen
The dollar fell to a 4-1/2-month low against the mark and 2-1/2-month low against the yen Wednesday, hurt by growing evidence of U.S. economic softness and fears that the currency’s 1996 strength has peaked.
The dollar also was hurt by a surprise interest rate reduction in Australia, boosting demand for yen, and a statement by Switzerland’s central bank that the Swiss franc was overvalued, boosting demand for marks.
