When family and friends get together for good food, good conversation and good times, the dining room table becomes the most important piece of furniture in the house.

That’s why do-it-yourselfers may find that this big, easy-to-build, country-style trestle set is just the thing for their dining rooms.

Whether it replaces or just complements an existing dinette set, this one provides plenty of room for 8 to 10 people. As shown, the table measures 7 feet long, 33 inches wide and 28 inches high, and the benches measure 6 feet long by 11 inches wide by 17 inches high. The length of either piece can be adjusted to suit individual needs.

The project is easy enough for beginners. Most of the pieces are traced from full-size patterns and cut out, and the rest of the cuts are straight cuts.

Materials for the project can be purchased at any lumber yard or home center and include pine or clear fir in standard sizes, mostly 2-by-4s, 2-by-8s and 2-by-12s, along with wood screws and glue.

The two plans for the Trestle Table and Bench, No. C67, are $10.95 and include complete directions with 29 step-by-step photos, full-size traceable patterns, exploded diagrams and shopping lists and cutting schedules. Individually, the Trestle Table plan, No. 614, is $6.95 and the Trestle Bench plan, No. 615, is $4.95.

A catalog picturing hundreds of do-it-yourself projects is $3.95. Prices include postage and handling (for first-class mail, add $1 per item up to $3 maximum).
