Five Try To Smuggle Radioactive Matter

Belarusian police arrested five people Thursday for attempting to smuggle six containers of radioactive material out of the former Soviet republic.

The type of material was not immediately clear, but the containers emitted radiation three times higher than normal background radiation, security officials told the Interfax news agency.

Police estimated the containers were worth about $50,000.
