The Idaho Vandals were selected to finish in third place in their inaugural football season in the Big West Conference. Members of the media and Big West coaches were in Dallas for conference meetings.

The panel, which included members of both parties, selected Nevada, Utah State, Idaho, New Mexico State, Boise State and North Texas, in that order.

Earl Anthony, the 58-year-old left-hander and the all-time Professional Bowlers Association leader with 45 championships, had scores of 269, 280, 289 and 289 among his eight games to move into the lead after four rounds at the $150,000 Showboat PBA Senior Invitational Tournament.

Spokane’s Gary Mage, and Jim Frazier are in eighth and 15th places respectively.
