900 Rescued From Grounded Ship

Compiled From Wire Services

Boats ferried more than 900 passengers and crew members to dry land Monday after their cruise ship ran aground on a sandbar between Sweden and Denmark.

The Gripsholm, operated by the German-based TransOcean company, hit the sandbar about three miles off the Swedish town of Landskrona on Sunday night. There were no injuries, TransOcean spokesman John Will said by telephone from Bremen, Germany.

Will said 589 of the 601 passengers were from Germany and the rest from other European countries and Australia. The ship was en route from Copenhagen, Denmark, to Kiel, Germany.
